A crisis situation has hit Maseno University after more than 300 Faculty of Education students missed out on the graduation list.
The students discovered that their names had been excluded from this year’s graduation list despite having fully met the requirements for inclusion.
Maseno University is set to hold its 18th graduation ceremony on Friday 21st December, 2018.
Trouble at the institution started when a group of students went to see the Faculty’s Dean Dr. Edwards Joash Kochung. They discovered that their names had not been included on the list ahead of the graduation day.

According to the students, the situation has been worsened by the institution’s unresponsiveness to their plea.
The students have even raised the matter with the institution’s Vice-Chancellor but are yet to get any conclusive response on their fate.
“This is completely and totally unacceptable considering the hard efforts, sacrifice and financial burdens endured for us to be treated like this by failures emanating from the university leadership itself and not ourselves,” said one of the affected students on condition of anonymity for fear of victimization.
Finding a Solution
According to the students, the Dean of Faculty had forwarded their names to the VC’s office to be included in the list. They did not, however, understand why they had been excluded from the universty’s 18th graduation list.
However, the institution indicated that consultations are already ongoing to resolve the matter. The Dean of Faculty indicated that the students had qualified to graduate and met all the requirements set by the institutions.
Efforts to get comment from the VC Professor Julius Nyabundi’s office were fruitless as a lady who answered the phone and identified herself as the VC’s office administrator said was locked in an important meeting.
She said: “He is the only person authorized to comment on this matter from this office, but he is in a meeting. I don’t know how long it is going to take, but it can only be after that the Professor can talk to you.”
