The first ever virtual beauty pageant was held last week and Maryanne Angila overcame a stiff competition put up by other ladies to be crowned Miss Unforgettable Beauty Kenya 2020. The Kenyan version of the competition was organize by Beauty Pageants Kenya and saw the competitors go through a rigorous 5-challenge process to select the winner.
We had a chat with Marryanne Angila and here is what she had to say about the competition and her win.
TCLM: Hello Maryanne. Firstly, congratulations on your win
Marryanne: Thank you am humbled😊
TCLM: Tell us about your first pageant experience
Maryanne: Don’t mind the photos this was one of the best experience in my modeling career,it gave me the stamina. This photo was taken in 2013 during the Mr and Miss Status Technical University of Mombasa
TCLM: Tell me about your purpose
Maryanne: My purpose is to be the best version of myself and to support a girl. I want to be a better version of me. Everyday I wake up I challenge myself to do better and achieve something at the end of the day. I am also a strong advocate for the girl child in terms of education as well as daily life of an African girl Watch one of my projects, Support a girl Malindi
TCLM: Awesome. How did you learn about Miss Unforgettable Beauty Kenya? And why did you decide to take part?
Maryanne: A friend of mine saw it online and thought I should try it so I went online and read about it. As I read through I realized I ticked all the boxes of what they were looking for. I then asked myself why not considering it was a Virtual contest due to the Covid-19 Virus period?!
TCLM: How was your experience throughout the competition?
Maryanne: It was a complete learning experience. It was tough,competitive yet very interesting and fun. I a word, it was so overwhelming😂😊
TCLM: We can imagine! Now you’re headed for the global competition. What do you expect?
Maryanne: I expect to get more exposure and experience, fair competition and to have fun while doing what I love and represent my Country to the very best I can.

TCLM: Do you consider your self a feminist? Why? Why not?
Maryanne: No am not a feminist. I strongly believe in supporting the girl child but that doesn’t make me a feminist. I strongly believe in gender equity within every society.
TCLM: Alright… Which women inspire you the most?
Maryanne: Lupita Nyong’o,The woman behind the saying “All dream’s are valid”
TCLM: What are your goals as Miss Unforgettable Beauty Kenya?
Maryanne: My main goal is Represent my Country the best way possible and lead as an example 🙏. I also want to try and improve the society’s view or rather mindset about who a model is. Lastly, I want to use my crown to expand my project of support a girl to a wider scope Kenya and maybe Africa if possible.
TCLM: What if you win the global competition?
Maryanne: That would be a dream come true,it would be a greater scope and opportunity for me to lead as an example expand my projects and be the inspiration of a girl child world wide.
