Global university ranking website Webometrics has released the January 2019 edition of university rankings.
So far, the top 9 positions in the latest Webometrics ranking of Kenyan universities remained unchanged from the 2018 rankings.
The top three contenders in Kenya include the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University and Egerton University at positions one, two and three respectively.
The University of Nairobi is located in Nairobi County while Kenyatta and Egerton are in Kiambu and Nakuru county respectively.
According to the 2019 rankings released on January 30th, only Kibabii University dropped from its 10th position to position 14.
Kibabii University is located in Bungoma County.
This drop allowed United States International University (USIU) to close the list of the top 10 best universities in Kenya.
In the 2018 edition of the rankings, USIU was ranked at position 11 behind Kibabii University and ahead of Daystar University.
Others on the top 10 list include Moi University, JKUAT and Maseno University at positions four, five and six respectively.
Moi University is located in Uasin Gishu County while JKUAT is in Kiambu County. On the other hand, Maseno University is on the boarder of Siaya and Vihiga Counties.
Strathmore University is the best private university in Kenya occupying position seven followed by CUEA at position 9 followed by USIU at the 10th position.
Kakamega County-based Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology was ranked position 8 on the list.
