Looking for love? 8 places you can get your next partner

Finding your next partner

It’s 2019 and you’re still single, not to worry, you’re not alone. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been single for a few months, weeks or even years. It’s time to get out there and meet interesting people with similar interests such as yourself and probably land yourself a partner!

1. Campus

Most people consider finding love in campus a waste of time, exhausting and sometimes risky. The idea of having your partner in the same campus is similar to working with your partner in the same office, finding a balance is hard and needs a level of maturity most of us just don’t have.

Surprisingly, my favorite celebrity couple, Nameless (David Mathenge) and Wahu met on campus, got married, had children and have already spent over ten years together. To this date I still don’t know how they did it, am impressed.

2. Online Dating

Another option that gives majority of us more control is online dating. Finding a partner online back when it first started was considered a place for weird people who couldn’t get dates in the real world. Even our favorite 90’s movies and series made fun of people who tried online dating.

Flash forward to 2019 and online dating is the norm. Couples meeting online and getting married is nothing new making dating apps and social media very popular among young people. However, there’s a catch. Online dating has proven many times how easy it is for people to pretend to be someone else or portray an image completely different from their real lives. I could make a whole list of possible reasons not to go online searching for a date but if you have to, tread carefully.

So if you’re like me, a little bit of old school when it comes to finding love why not look out for these places instead, most of which are public, open and relatively affordable. No one said finding a good partner would be a walk in the park but here goes.

3. Wine bars and Libraries.

Unlike other kinds of bars where guys are drunk and might turn rowdy, wine bars are a place where you not only get to have wine from different time and countries you also but get to enjoy a culture that comes with it. Single guys who show up at wine bars are also laid back. So, if anytime you hear there’s a wine tasting event near you, grab your best little black dress, a pair of heels and head to the venue.

The library is also a good place to start and books are a five-star conversation starter. If you’re not an avid reader however, don’t pretend to be one. It will show.

4. Coffee shops like Java or Artcaffe

Who doesn’t love a hot cup of coffee? Don’t forget to carry a book. Being constantly on our phones is never a good look. You become a hundred times attractive and more approachable with a book in your hands. However, e-books do not count.

5. Attending Seminars could land you a partner

You know the ones frequented by men? They’re great at landing yourself an eligible bachelor who can be your partner. This is mainly because it’s easier for men to approach a lady when the ratio of men to women is larger unlike if it was the other way round.

Attending these seminars might prove difficult especially if you’re not knowledgeable on the topics of discussion. Your best bet would be going for one you’re familiar with.

6. Concerts

Concerts like the Koroga Festival or the Safaricom Jazz Festival offer a relaxed setting in the early hours of the day. It’s during this time that you could move around meet new people and make friends along the way.

Come prepared though, look presentable because there might be some competition. Don’t carry a book to one of these concerts you’ll look weird.

7. Take a Cooking Class with a friend

These days plenty of chefs offer classes on the weekends as a way to teach people gourmet cooking or simple recipes they can make at home. You’ll not only learn how to cook but might also end up with your next partner!

8. Take a Dance Class

You know what makes Salsa dance classes a perfect way to get a partner, the dance requires a partner making it romantic in its own way. If you’re ever in a salsa dance class and he’s single, couple up and get to dancing. Ask for his number after.

But wait, what if you’re already in a relationship? These places are fantastic for a fun date night with your significant other, except for the library.
